FAQs

If you find yourself unsure whether our program would be a good fit for your child's needs, we completely understand! A list of the most commonly asked questions below can provide you with more information. However, we want to emphasize that your child's unique situation may require further discussion. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us if you have any other concerns or inquiries that are not covered in the following list. Our team is here to assist you and ensure your child receives the support they need.

  • Currently, we are an in-network provider with Blue Cross Blue Shield and United Healthcare only. Family is still responsible for all copays, deductibles, and max out of pocket expenses which have not been met; however, this does not guarantee payment of services. Payment will be required before the first visit.

For all other insurances, we are happy to provide you with a super bill for you to submit to your insurance.

  • At this time, we do not require a deposit to book your intensive; however, if patient cancels without 30 day notice or emergency situation, patient wil not be alowed to schedule future appointments without paying a $250.00 nonrefundable deposit.

  • Intensive therapy programs require a high level of commitment from families. While we recognize life happens, we want to be able to provide services to as many children as possible due to limited programs available. Our cancellation policy is as follows:

30 day notice is required for no penalty. If patient cancels without 30 day notice or emergency situation, patient will not be allowed to schedule future appointments without paying a $250.00 nonrefundable deposit.

  • Cancellations will only occur in extenuating circumstances beyond our control. Because Monica is our only DMI trained intensive-based therapist, she will not be able to make up missed sessions but will offer the soonest available time to reschedule.

  • At this time, DMI intensives and AAC intensives are the only programs we offer. It is our goal to offer Occupational Therapy intensives in the future. Please let us know if you are interested in OT intensives!

  • DMI can benefit any child that has yet to meet their milestones. Children diagnosed with any type of motor delay including conditions such as Down Syndrome, Cerebral palsy, global developmental delay, hypotonia, chromosomal abnormalities/genetic disorders, spinal cord lesions or acquired brain injury may benefit from this form of therapy.

  • The earlier, the better! Children can start DMI therapy as early as under 1 month of age to provide a greater chance in developing efficient movement patterns and avoiding bad habits.

  • Although DMI is intensive, studies indicate that a young child can handle one hour of vigorous exercises. This level of activity helps build strength, endurance, and improves their alertness and awareness. Parents often notice improved communication after an intensive program due to the location of movement and speech in the brain. We will customize the program to suit your child's needs and ensure they can handle the expected level of activity.

  • Our dedication lies in providing comprehensive care to as many children as possible. We accommodate a wide range of diagnoses, ensuring inclusivity for all. However, it is important to note that Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) is the only condition contraindicated for in our DMI and Intensive programs. We also take into account the management and control of seizures as part of our assessment process. If your child experiences uncontrolled seizures despite medical management, we may advise deferring intensive treatments. This recommendation is made in the best interest of your child's safety, ensuring that they receive the appropriate level of care that meets their individual needs.

  • DMI is best applied as an intensive intervention for 1-3 weeks, 45-90 minute sessions. While I have completed all of the frequencies on various patient’s and seen results with all, I have found 2x/day for 2 weeks tends to yield the best results (only my opinion).

  • It is recommended every 3-4 months based off the IMOT (Intensive Model of Therapy).

  • YES! While I can not teach the DMI exercises to your weekly therapists, I love collaborating with other team members to offer the best treatment possible for your child.

  • DMI is an incredibly effective intervention for individuals with visual impairments. By engaging in specific movement patterns, DMI provides ample sensory input that enhances body awareness through both the proprioceptive and vestibular systems. Remarkably, these exercises can benefit individuals regardless of their level of visual acuity.

  • Triform Therapy has an additional physical therapist trained in DMI who offers weekly sessions. Triform Therapy also offers OT and ST services based on availability. Monica also offers “follow up” appts as needed.
